Earning extra money at home is what everyone wants, but so many become confused and discouraged by too much new information. Here are three tips to help you get organized and stay on top.
1. Can you draw it on the back of an envelope?
A prominent politician once said he never bothered reading anything longer than a page. If it couldn\’t be said in a couple of hundred words, it wasn\’t worth knowing about!
What about your business? Can you draw it, or describe it on a sheet of paper or a postcard? If not, I bet it needs to be simplified.
Affiliate marketing simply isn\’t that hard to understand. Find a product; sign up to be an affiliate; set up a simple website or use the one provided by the product provider; drive traffic to the site; collect your commissions.
There, I said it in about forty words! Can you do the same with your business?
If not, why not? What are you doing \”extra\” that might not be all that essential?
2. Napoleon won wars one battle at a time.
Napoleon had a dream to conquer Europe. (Not a goal I recommend.)
How did he think he was going to do that? One battle at a time!
His downfall came when he bit off more than he could chew!
Earning extra money at home does not mean we have to invade other countries. It\’s slightly easier. 
Take Napoleon\’s advice (at least when he was successful!)… do just one thing at a time!
Starting out using pay per click? Then do that until you know it inside out.
Building your first list? Then do only that.
Don\’t get distracted with this week\’s \”hottest/ latest/sexiest\” traffic source.
Can even the newest marketer make affiliate marketing work? Of course, provided he or she sticks to only a few essential tasks.
You can trust me on this. I\’ve learned that lesson… several times!
3. Fail as often as you can.
Ever heard that advice? An oldie, but still a goodie!
Failing as often as we can means we are willing to take heart in the face of failure… and start over.
We got the wrong message at school. School was about avoiding mistakes. Mistakes were \”bad\” and earned us a poor report card.
That lesson will not serve you well in the online world (or the offline world either).
Willingness to fail is simply willingness to see what works, and you will never find out out what works for you if you are not willing to make a mess.
Let\’s put it this way: Making a mess is the only way to learn in the real world.
My first efforts at pay-per-click were a mess.
My first efforts to build a list were another mess.
And yet… here I am. Still.
Will you still be in business in a year? Two years? Five years?
I hope with all my heart that you will stick with failure as long as it takes to see success.
There is no great secret to earning extra money at home in this industry. You just need the right mindset. To make affiliate marketing work for you, you need a simple \”postcard-sized\” business plan, do just one thing at a time, and commit to learning from your mistakes.
